This is most likely the simplest and easiest dessert you can possibly make this holiday season. Candy Cane Cloud Dessert is prepared with only three ingredients and can be made hours in advance. Kids and adults alike love this cooling and refreshing festive treat!

I cannot possibly think of a dessert that is not only easier to make than this one, but one that is so delicious and delivers such a bang for your buck when it comes to only three ingredients! Appropriately named, Candy Cane Cloud Dessert is a light and airy as a cloud, yet it’s an exceptionally refreshing and fulfilling dessert.
You could compare this dessert to an English Fool. A fool traditionally comes together very simply by gently folding some type of pureed, cooked fruit or berry into a sweet custard. I’m going against tradition here and using sweetened whipped cream instead. To make my dessert Christmas-ready, instead of fruit, I’m incorporating crushed candy canes.

NO-BAKE RECIPES
I used to think that the term no-bake meant that a recipe was more of an assembly-type recipe. Something like a salad, for example. It sounds simple enough, right? Toss the lettuce and any other veggies you want into a bowl. Top it with cheese, croutons, avocado, hard-boiled egg, etc. Add some dressing and you’re all done! But, no-bake actually just means no baking. There still might be some stove-top cooking needed – or even a microwave, for that matter. But not in this recipe! All you need is a beater!
Some other no-bake-type holiday recipes you might enjoy are these Rudolph’s Red Nose Cookies. Hairy Moose Droppings are delicious and always quite the conversation starter! Just like these Caramel Peanut Slices were a favourite of my mom’s so were these Marshmallow Coconut Balls and so were these Christmas Crunch Cookies. INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR THIS RECIPE
The following is a list of the ingredients needed to prepare this recipe. For exact amounts and measurements, refer to the printable recipe card located near the bottom of this post.
- Whipping Cream
- Sugar – Regular granulated sugar is all you need.
- Crushed Candy Canes
HOW TO MAKE A CANDY CANE CLOUD DESSERT
Before you start, place your mixing bowl into the freezer. An ice-cold bowl will help to make whipping the cream faster and easier. Allow the bowl to chill for 5 minutes. Add the cold cream and sugar to the bowl and beat until light and fluffy.
Use a rubber spatula to gently fold in the crushed candy canes. Transfer the mixture to your serving cups and refrigerate for a minimum of one hour before serving. Serve with a candy cane or peppermint stick.

HEAVY CREAM VS WHIPPING CREAM
Confession time – I use them both interchangeably, depending on what is available at the store, or whatever is on sale! Both of these can be quite costly. If memory serves me correctly, a 250mL carton, or one cup, here in Canada, will run just short of $5! There is a difference between the two, but not enough to concern yourself with when it comes to this dessert.
Just in case you’re interested, the most basic difference is the amount of fat contained in both. Whipping cream has 35% fat. It can be whipped into peaks and it’s also rich enough that it won’t curdle when heated in soups and sauces. It’s nearly identical to heavy cream so if a recipe calls for heavy cream and you can only find whipping cream, feel free to use that instead. In contrast, heavy cream, which is sometimes called heavy whipping cream, contains about 38% fat. Either of those would work well in this recipe. I used 35% whipping cream.

MAKING YOUR OWN CRUSHED CANDY CANES
If you don’t want to use the red and white crushed candy canes that you can find just about anywhere this time of year, you can crush your own candy canes by placing unwrapped, broken candy canes into a sturdy bag and firmly rolling over them with a wooden rolling pin.
Either way you look at it, the candy canes should not be crushed too finely. Many times, you’ll find they have too much powder, meaning that they have been crushed too much. You want chunky pieces in order to get the red and white speckled pattern.
I’ve tried crushing them myself and have crushed them a little too much. Even the type you buy in the store can sometimes have too much candy cane dust. You can easily fix it by filtering out the dust. Working in small amounts, place a heaping spoonful of the crushed candy canes into a colander. Sift out the dust so that you are left with nice little pieces.

When you combine cocoa, coffee, and peppermint, they form the perfect flavour combination; and these flavours are bold and delicious in this Mocha Peppermint Loaf. Because this loaf is made with buttermilk, it remains very moist. Drizzled with a peppermint ganache and topped with crushed peppermint candy, this loaf is certainly decadent! This recipe makes two loaves – one for you and one to share!

The combination of salt and chocolate has always been one of the best! In this quick and easy treat recipe, salted pretzels are dipped in melted chocolate and topped with crushed peppermint candy canes. They’re super easy to make and can be packaged up for gifts as well.

Chocolate and peppermint go together like bread and butter. Peppermint Chunk Fudge is the perfect unison of them both; consider this fudge recipe a gift from me to you!
