If you love a thick and flavourful salad dressing or dip with a strong dill influence, this Dill Ranch Salad Dressing is just the thing you need! Not only is this dressing easy to make, it’s delicious, and makes good use of ingredients you already have in your fridge and in your spice rack and too!

In this house, we love mayonnaise. In fact, we only ever buy Hellmann’s mayonnaise, and if you were to look in our pantry at any given time, you would find at least two jars. Plus, there’s always an open jar in the fridge. Another thing you would find quite often is dill pickles. So, I combined those two things, along with a few other ingredients, to make this Dill Ranch Salad Dressing!
We also love dill. Fresh dill is always best, but we always have some dried dillweed on hand too. We love it in potato salads, in our coleslaw, in our tartar sauce, and most certainly on our popcorn and chips! And, since this dressing is so fast and easy to make, there will really be no excuse for us to buy similar sauces in a jar from the grocery store anymore!
If you love dill as much as we do, then I have a few recipes here that will be sure to satisfy all of your dill cravings. Have you ever had dill on a pizza? Try my Bacon Dill Pickle Pizza; you’ll love it! I’ve also used dill pickles and fresh dill in a Dill Pickle Ranch Pasta dish. I baked with fresh dill too. My Savoury Dill and Feta Scones are perfect for those of you who love the combination of dill and cheese.

DRIED DILL IS NOT THE SAME AS FRESH DILL
If you don’t have any fresh dill on hand, but still want to make this Dill Ranch Salad Dressing, you can. Let me go on record right here and right now. Substituting dried dill will give you dill flavour, but it’s just not quite as good as fresh dill. The fresh dill, along with some dried dill, is what makes this sauce so extraordinary.
So, if you need to substitute fresh dill for dried dill, it’s easy to do. For this particular recipe, you need to use 1/4 cup of chopped fresh dill. That would be equal to four teaspoons.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO PREPARE THIS RECIPE
The following is a list of the ingredients needed to prepare this recipe. For exact amounts and measurements, refer to the printable recipe card located near the bottom of this post.
- Mayonnaise – You can use regular, light, or fat-free here.
- Fresh Dill – Try to get your hands on fresh dill. Even though you can use dried dill here, it does not compare to fresh dill.
- Chives – This add freshness and extra oniony flavour.
- Dill Pickles
- Dill Pickle Juice or Brine – Get this right from the jar of dill pickles!
- Dried Herbs and Spices – You will need dried dill, onion powder, garlic powder, ground black pepper, and salt.
HOW TO MAKE DILL RANCH SALAD DRESSING
Measure all of the ingredients into a mixing bowl and whisk well until combined and incorporated. Transfer to a food-safe container and refrigerate for a minimum of one hour before using.

DILL RANCH SALAD DRESSING SERVING SUGGESTIONS
- As a Dip for Chicken – I love to use this dressing as a dip for chicken fingers or chicken nuggets.
- Make a Sandwich – In our home, we love the combination of tuna salad with dill. Use the dressing as the spread for any sandwich you like! Egg Salad Sandwiches are so good with dill mayo too!
- Toss a Salad – If you like creamy salad dressings, this one will do the trick.
- Drizzle on Veggies – Try drizzling some of this mayo over a baking sheet full of piping hot roasted vegetables! What a great way to add even more flavour to an already delicious side!

STORING AND REFRIGERATION
This dressing is certainly best after it has had time to sit in the fridge for at least two hours before using. If you have any leftovers, just pop it back into the fridge. This dressing will keep for about five days. But, it’s really delicious, so you might not have it that long anyway! If you do store the dressing, be sure to stir well before serving, because the liquids and solids may have separated.
