HONEY LEMON DILL SAUCE
It just so happens that in our home, we all love the flavour of dill. Fresh dill is always best, but we always have some dried dillweed on hand too. We love it in potato salads, in our coleslaw, in our tartar sauce, and most certainly on our popcorn and chips! Honey Lemon Dill Sauce is so fast and easy to make too, so there’s no excuse to buy similar sauces in a jar from the grocery store anymore!
I love a quick and easy sauce recipe. I love it even more so when I don’t need to cook it! Besides the excellent taste, that’s what makes this sauce so good. It can be the answer to so many mains and sides. I’ll get into that a bit later, but first, let’s talk about fresh versus dried dill. They are not the same!
If you love dill as much as we do, then I have a few recipes here that will be sure to satisfy all of your dill cravings. Have you ever had dill on a pizza? Try my Bacon Dill Pickle Pizza; you’ll love it! I’ve also used dill pickles and fresh dill in a Dill Pickle Ranch Pasta dish. I baked with fresh dill too. My Savoury Dill and Feta Scones are perfect for those of you who love the combination of dill and cheese.

DRIED DILL IS NOT THE SAME AS FRESH DILL
If you don’t have any fresh dill on hand, but still want to make this Honey Lemon Dill Sauce, you can. Let me go on record right here and right now. Substituting dried dill will give you dill flavour, but it’s just not quite as good as fresh dill. The fresh dill, along with the fresh lemon juice, is what makes this sauce so extraordinary.
So, if you need to substitute fresh dill for dried dill, it’s easy to do. For this particular recipe, you need to use 1/4 cup of chopped fresh dill. That would be equal to four teaspoons. If you need to substitute the fresh lemon juice with bottled lemon juice, you can do that too. Again, just like the dill, fresh is better. Bottled lemon just has preservatives, but the taste is very similar.
To substitute the fresh lemon juice with bottled lemon juice, just use the same amount. One tablespoon of fresh lemon juice is the same as one tablespoon of bottled lemon juice.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO PREPARE THIS RECIPE
The following is a list of the ingredients needed to prepare this recipe. For exact amounts and measurements, refer to the printable recipe card located near the bottom of this post.
- Mayonnaise – You can use regular, light, or fat-free here. I used light mayonnaise just because that’s just what I had on hand.
- Fresh Dill – Fresh dill is going to get my vote every single time. You can use dried. See notes above.
- Honey – Just a little bit of honey goes a long way in this sauce. If you don’t care for a bit of sweetness, you can omit it completely, however, your sauce will be a little more tart if you skip out on the honey.
- Lemon Juice – Freshly squeezed lemon juice is best, but you can use bottled.
- Honey Mustard – I find that the addition of the mustard helps to marry the other strong ingredients in the sauce while adding a bit of warmth.
- Ground Black Pepper – Pepper is all you need because both the mayonnaise and the mustard will have a bit of saltiness to them already.
HOW TO MAKE HONEY LEMON DILL SAUCE:
Honey Lemon Dill Sauce is very complicated to make – um, right! It really couldn’t be any more simple! If you can boil water or make ice cubes, you can make this sauce. This is just how you do it.
Toss all of the ingredients into a bowl. Whisk them together until well combined. That’s it. You can use the sauce right away, but the flavour will get better if you refrigerate it for a few hours. Transfer to a food-safe container and put a lid on it. Place it in the fridge for at least two hours. Before using, stir once more.
Lord Byron’s Notes
This sauce is best if refrigerated for at least 2 hours before use. This time will allow the ingredients a moment to marry together and become a more cohesive sauce. If you notice after a day or two that there is some water/moisture on top of the sauce, don’t worry! This does not mean it has spoiled. Sometimes, fresh dill will release moisture, because it does have water content. Just stir it and it will all come back together as a uniform sauce.

STORING HONEY LEMON DILL SAUCE
This sauce is certainly best after it has had time to sit in the fridge for at least two hours before using. If you have any leftovers, just pop it back into the fridge. This sauce will keep for about five days. But, it’s really delicious, so you might not have it that long anyway! If you do store the sauce, be sure to stir well before serving, because the liquids and solids may have separated.

Delish dressing to serve along our chicken souvlaki. I made it as written and it very good. However, after I tried it, I did add just a pinch of salt, and it really made the flavors just shine!
