Plain baked chicken is a thing of the past! Jazz up your baked or grilled chicken with these 6 Seasoning Blends! Pick your favourite – Cajun, Italian, Southwest, Jerk, Curry, or BBQ!
I had so much fun with this particular blog entry. Every blog post I write, I learn something new or try to hone in on developing a new skill, but this one was something else! It took a lot of planning to get everything just right so that the recipes would be easy for you to read, and that the photographs corresponded with the recipe cards and the direction of the post.
I love to come home after work and bake or grill a skinless, boneless chicken breast for dinner. It’s an easy and calorie-friendly way to get some protein, and it’s a great main to go with some steamed broccoli or brown rice.
But, night after night, seasoning a chicken breast with salt and pepper becomes quite boring. I needed to spice it up a little. I could have taken the lazy route and purchase spice blends at the grocery store, but I find those are really too high in sodium and I can’t control the heat level or make a balance in seasonings that work for me.
That’s the coolest thing about these seasoning blends. Play with them and adjust them to work for you. For example, if you can handle more heat, increase the amount of cayenne in the Cajun, Jerk, or BBQ seasoning. And, of course, you can lower the amounts as well, and adjust the salt level to your personal preference.
Whenever I make the Italian seasoning for myself, I’ll increase the oregano and decrease the basil, because I much prefer oregano over basil. Again, personal preferences and adjustments.
I’ve tried some of those “no-salt” seasonings before, but I was never really satsified with the results. I’m all for not adding excess amounts of salt to food, but I most certainly need to add some, otherwise, eveyrthing is just too bland and I don’t enjoy it.
6 Seasoning Blends for Baked Chicken took care of that for me. Now, I don’t have to think about it. I come home, pick the flavour that matches my mood at that time, and in thirty minutes, I have a great tasting chicken dinner!
These seasoning blends will work with boneless, skinless chicken breasts like you see in the photographs, but they will also work with drumsticks, thighs, and even wings. It’s up to you if you remove the skin or leave it on. I tend to remove it so that it cuts down on the calories and fat content.
Lastly, these 6 Seasoning Blends for Baked Chicken are not just for chicken. Try seasoning your baked potato with a little bit, or adding some to your pasta sauce. In fact, any drained, boiled pasta can be tossed with a seasoning blend of your choice along with some olive oil for a very easy and delicious pasta dish!
