A popular mukbang favourite among many foodie YouTubers, Korean Bburinkle Chicken is a crispy fried chicken with a cheesy, onion, and garlic coating. This chicken is completely addictive and perfect when served with a sweet dipping sauce.

KOREAN BBURINKLE CHICKEN
I’m about to share a little secret with you that not many people know about. I suffer from major bouts of insomnia. These bouts can last a few days or even a few weeks.
Either I cannot fall asleep at all, or if I’m able to get to sleep, I can’t seem to sleep for longer than an hour or two without waking up. Sometimes, I take a sleeping aid, but most times, I rely on something that I stumbled upon a few years ago – ASMR!

IT MIGHT SOUND CRAZY, BUT IT WORKED!
I remember being a child and sharing a room with my brother. My twin bed was on one wall and his was on the other. I would spend my allowance money to buy a bag of chips for him. The catch? He had to eat them while I was trying to go to sleep. The sound of the crunching and munching, and the rattling of the chip bag would lull me to sleep.
We stopped sharing a room when we were 12 years old. So, I had to find other means. The hum of a tabletop fan would help, but not totally. Music was too distracting because I would want to sing along. Nothing seemed to work, however, I did notice that the sleepy feeling would happen at other times.
If someone was chewing gum, for instance. I loved that sound! The random clicking of a pen would make me drowsy. But, nothing worked as well as the sound a newspaper makes when you turn the page! Oh my God, that is pure heaven! I can’t tell you how many times John.e has read a newspaper or a magazine in bed to help me sleep!

WHAT IS THIS SLEEP-INDUCING SENSATION?
About five years ago, we were having dinner with a couple of our friends, Gloria and Michael. We were talking about this phenomenon and they told me it was ASMR, or autonomous sensory meridian response. It is a tingling sensation that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. A relatively new term, YouTube has been the main source for my ASMR fix.
Every single night without fail, I will put on my noise-cancelling headphones and listen to my favourite ASMR YouTubers munch on something crunchy. John.e cannot cope with the sound of someone eating, but it’s music to my ears. My favourites are Boki, SAS, and KyoKwang.
The one food that ASMR and Mukbang channels alike, seem to favour the most is bburinkle chicken. Every time I watch those videos, I crave the chicken. I had to find out what it was exactly and how to make it. It seems to be a heavily guarded secret. It certainly wasn’t easy to find a reliable source on the internet.
After a bit of research, I was able to determine what it was and how to make it. The first time, the chicken tasted great, but the topping just wasn’t right. And it was a little soggy rather than crispy. But, the next time, I was able to perfect it. Doesn’t it look good!? Let me tell you how to make it!

INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO PREPARE THIS RECIPE
The following is a list of the ingredients needed to prepare this recipe. For exact amounts and measurements, refer to the printable recipe card located near the bottom of this post.
- Chicken – This recipe is for 4 pounds of chicken. You can use legs, thighs, or wings. Chicken breast meat will be rather dry, so save your breast meat for my Baked Parmesan Chicken Fingers.
- Oil – This chicken is deep-fried. Use an oil that has little or no flavour. When deep frying, I like to use vegetable or canola oil.
- Milk – There are three cups of milk in this recipe. Milk is a great liquid for marinating or soaking chicken. It breaks down the enzymes in the meat to make a more tender and flavourful chicken.
- Eggs – I always use large eggs in everything I bake or cook.
- Flour – All purpose flour is good here.
- Powdered Cheese – This is essentially dehydrated cheese, although most brands contain no real cheese at all. You can buy it online here or you can steal a few packages from the mac and cheese in your pantry!
- Pantry Spices – These are quite simple and need no explanation – onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, oregano, parsley, salt, and ground black pepper.
HOW TO PREP KOREAN BBURINKLE CHICKEN
Wash your chicken pieces and pat them dry with paper towels. Place the chicken in a large bowl and set aside. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and eggs. Pour over the chicken. Move the chicken about so that it’s well-coated and fully submerged. Set aside for 20-30 minutes.
Next, add the oil to a deep Dutch oven. Preheat the oil to 350 degrees F. While the oil is heating, add the flour, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper to a large bowl. Whisk to combine. Set up a workstation. You will need two large baking sheets with a cooling rack sitting on each one.
Working with one piece of chicken at a time, remove it from the milk and egg mixture. Gently shake off the excess liquid. Coat the chicken well in the flour mixture and set it on one of the prepared baking sheets/cooling racks. Do this will all of the chicken, working with one piece at a time.
Once all of the chicken has been coated, again, working with one piece at a time, dip it once more into the milk and egg mixture until fully submerged. Remove and gently shake off the excess liquid. Coat once again in the flour mixture and place it back onto the cooling rack.

YOU’RE ALL SET – LET’S FRY THE CHICKEN!
Now that all of the chicken has been dipped and coated twice, it’s time to fry. First, preheat your oven to 200 degrees F. Fry the chicken in batches – about 4 or 5 pieces at a time. It will take about 7 minutes for the chicken to be fully cooked through. Once fully cooked and browned, remove from the oil and place on a clean baking sheet/cooling rack. Set in the oven. Do not cover!
Continue with frying the next batch until all of the chicken is done. While the chicken rests in the oven, whisk together the topping mixture. Remove the chicken from the oven and toss each piece gently in the cheese mixture. Place the chicken on a serving plate. Sprinkle over the remaining cheese mixture and serve with dipping sauce.

DIPPING SAUCE
Whenever I watch these ASMR videos, I notice that most ASMR artists tend to dip their Bburinkle Chicken into a creamy sauce. It has been described in one video as a very sweet sauce made with sweetened condensed milk. It couldn’t be! Could it??
I tried my version of Korean Bburinkle Chicken with my homemade Donair Sauce and it was absolutely perfect!! The saltiness of the crispy batter and the powdered cheese topping were a perfect match for the sweet sauce. I love my Newfoundland Donair Sauce, and I’m learning of more ways to use it.
You have to try this recipe! Can you eat the chicken without the dipping sauce? Of course, you can! But, I encourage you to try it just one. It’s an exceptionally great pairing and if you don’t like it, you can use the sauce in a Donair or as a dip for your pizza crust!

I was recently in Korea for six weeks and had never heard of bbrunkle chicken before and when I had it, it was AMAZING. I loved it and I cannot find it anywhere here in the USA hence I may give it a go to make it myself. As for the sauce, in Korea was semi-sweet and made with yogurt. I don’t think it was sweetened condensed milk at least from the place I got it from (several times).

I’m so jealous that you got to visit Korea. It’s on my bucket list! I’ve only ever had the very sweet sauce, but you’re the second person who has mentioned the yogurt version. I have to hunt for that one now too! 🙂
