A delicious, garlicky, dry seasoning which makes the best garlic bread in a hurry – sprinkle liberally onto buttered bread and bake. Garlic Bread Seasoning tastes perfectly cheesy even though the seasoning is cheese-free!
GARLIC BREAD SEASONING
Why shouldn’t vegans enjoy the wonderful cheesy, buttery taste of garlic bread as well as the rest of us? I have here a great seasoning blend that does just that! And, don’t worry, Dear Reader, if you’re not a vegan, you could easily substitute the nutritional yeast with parmesan cheese.
I wanted to make this seasoning for a few reasons. We love garlic bread in our home, and due to the fact that I prepare many pasta dishes during the week – because of the vegetarian – a nice piece of warm, buttery garlic bread served with one of those weeknight pasta dishes, always puts a smile on everyone’s face.
Garlic butter, either store-bought or homemade, is a fast and efficient way to season a slice of bread, but if you’re thinking about making things a little healthier, than Garlic Bread Seasoning is a great solution.
CUT THE SODIUM AND CALORIES TOO!
By cutting out the parmesan cheese and adding in the nutritional yeast, I was able to lower the calorie count and control the sodium levels a little better. Not only that, I can store the seasoning in a mason jar and keep it my pantry for a long period of time.
You could, of course, use butter for the bread, or something a little better for you, such as Smart Balance. There are numerous vegan butter options on the market, so the choice is yours. And, yes, regular butter will work just fine if you’re not practicing a vegan diet.
OTHER SEASONING OPTIONS
Garlic Bread Seasoning is not limited to garlic bread. Try it on roasted potatoes. Sprinkle a little over a salad for extra flavour. Or whisk some into some heavy cream for a great, homemade white pasta sauce. The possibilities are endless!
Just look at how delicious that garlic bread looks! I sprinkled mine with a little parmesan cheese, because I’m not practicing a vegan diet, but you can get really good vegan parmesan cheese too!
I grilled my bread first. While it was grilling, I combined some butter and some of the seasoning. Once the bread was ready, I smeared the butter mixture onto each slice while the bread will still hot.
