Pre-mixed seasoning blends are perfect for the home cook with a busy lifestyle. Consider using Beef Seasoning Blend on a roast beef, on steak before pan-searing it, or toss some with diced potatoes and roast until browned. This blend has everything you need to season meat and vegetables just right every time!

BEEF SEASONING BLEND
I love having homemade seasoning blends on hand. And, there are two reasons for that. The first reason is that I can purchase individual spices and herbs at my local bulk store and make my own seasoning blends at home for a fraction of the cost.
And, the second reason is that by making my own seasoning blends, I know exactly what is going into them, and I can control the flavour profile and sodium levels.
Of course, there’s always the bonus of having seasoning blends ready to go and not having to measure out different spices and herbs, or whisking them together. With this particular Beef Seasoning Blend, I can make anything taste like a roast beef Sunday dinner without all of the fuss.

MAKE YOUR OWN SPICE BLENDS – IT’S CHEAPER!
Who doesn’t love to have seasoning blends on hand for when the mood strikes? I, for one, have a fully stocked spice rack, and another dozen or so spices in our pantry. But, when I’m in a rush, I love to reach for a pre-assembled spice blend.
When I not in a rush, I like to reach into my spice collection and measure out exact amounts for each one. I tend to do this a lot when cooking soups, stews, or anything else that takes time and effort. Oh, here’s another great idea. Take a look at this awesome Spice Rack Sauce recipe!
On weeknights, even now that I’m working from home, I much prefer a grab-and-go type of spice mix. That’s why this Beef Seasoning Blend is so great. Plus, you can use it for so many recipes. If you’re curious, I also have recipes for Italian, Greek, Taco, BBQ, and Garlic Bread blends!

NOT JUST FOR BEEF!
And, as an extra bonus, the entire seasoning blend is vegetarian friendly! I don’t know about you, but whenever I cook with meat at home, my two vegetarians will often comment on how great the dish smells, and it saddens me that the dish is off limits to them. But, if I dice up some potatoes, toss them in olive oil and add a generous sprinkling of Roast Beef Seasoning Blend, they get to enjoy the smells and tastes just like I do!
Now, this seasoning is not just limited to beef or potatoes. You can most certainly use it to create a fake beef stock for a soup or stew. Simply add one tablespoon of the seasoning blend to four cups of boiling water and whisk it to combine. The flour in the blend will help to thicken the stock, making it perfect for soups, stews, and even gravies!

HERE’S WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE BEEF SEASONING BLEND:
- All Purpose Flour
- Ground Black Pepper
- Paprika
- Salt
- Dried Oregano
- Dried Basil
- Dried Parsley
- Dried Rosemary
- Celery Seed
It couldn’t be easier to make. I measure out all of the ingredients into a bowl. Then, I whisk them together until the blend looks uniform. Transfer the mixture to a mason jar and store in your pantry for up to six months.

This is fabulous! I don’t like buying a lot of pre-made spice mixes either, because I’m always worried about what fillers are in them. As a non-beef eater, I like the tip about using this to make a faux-stock, or to put with potatoes!
byronethomas@gmail.com says
Thanks, Sarah. I love making my own spice blends. You know exactly what you’re eating that way.

I LOVE this! I’m such a huge fan of making DIY seasoning blends at home, because just like you, I can control the amount of sodium. And most of the time, I have the exact seasonings in my cabinet that are in the seasoning blend bottles. I’m using this the very next time I make any type of beef!
byronethomas@gmail.com says
Same here, Megan. I always have a good collection of spices on hand, so making a large batch of blended seasoning like this one, is always easy for me.

I love the idea of making your own blends to have on hand. I keep meaning to do it, but I never do. This one sounds great and I may just have to make it!
byronethomas@gmail.com says
Give it a try – you can use it on anything, not just beef. 🙂

This is fantastic!! I am always looking for a good beef but not only for beef – all purpose type seasoning! I love buying my spices in bulk and making my own mixes ahead of time. Homemade is so much better! You control the quality, the sodium the flavors. Just a win-win situation in my opinion. Printing this recipe now!
byronethomas@gmail.com says
Thank you, Kathy. Much less sodium is always a win!

We are serious meat eaters to this is perfect! Although, we are trying (very hard) to do meatless days (so hard!) so this working on potatoes is great! Maybe it would work on earthy veggies too? We’d love to experiment 🙂
byronethomas@gmail.com says
I can’t see why not, Jolina! 🙂

This is such a great idea! I don’t know why I’ve never thought to do this. I probably have all these individual spices sitting on my spice rack. And I love the fact that you can add this to veggies. I bet it would take potatoes to the next level. Will be trying soon 🙂

I do like your seasoning blend and you’re absolutely right about it being not just cheaper but tastier too. We make several seasoning blends, especially for our ribs and pork but we haven’t made a beef one. We haven’t used flour in our blend, what a good idea. Have you tried Wondra flour? It would be great for just this type of recipe. It’s granulated and pourable. It would work great in a shaker. I’m pinning to make this for our beef roasts.

Another great idea! I usually go to TJ Max or Marshall’s and buy my seasonings there’s but you’re totally right. It’s so much healthier and better to make it myself. Not to mention economical. I have a gorgoues roast in my freezer for dinner on Sunday and I’ll season it with this. But I bet it would taste delicious too on a roasted chicken!! Mmm!!

This is a wonderful seasoning mixture for roast beef. It would be good to use with au ju to have French dip sandwiches!! Loads of flavor!!
byronethomas@gmail.com says
Oh, I love that idea!
valmg @ From Val's Kitchen says
That sounds like it would have a nice flavor. Do you think it would change much if I substituted 1-1 gluten-free flour replacement?
byronethomas@gmail.com says
Thank you. I have never worked with gluten free flour, so I really could tell you for sure. I’m sure a one to one ratio would be the same though.

Pass on my Thanks to the two vegetarians in your family. This is such a flavorful spice blend and I can’t wait to try it. Would love it roasted vegetables.

Ha! I’ll let them both know.

I fully agree with you – the best reason for making things homemade is simply because you know what’s going in there. I am pinning this for later use as I am sure it will come in handy! Thanks!

Thank you. 🙂

Interesting recipe. I will like try this powder to roast my veggies. Let me know what do you think about it?

I think that’s a great idea!
Julie | Bunsen Burner Bakery says
This is such a great idea – I make a lot of homemade spice blends for things like tacos or fajitas, but I’ve never considered adding flour to make them appropriate for stocks and gravies. What a great way to flavor soup and thicken it at the same time!
byronethomas@gmail.com says
Gravy! That’s a great idea, Julie. I never thought of that. 🙂
Roxanne says
I usually just use a pot roast seasoning packet, but realized I didn’t have any for my beef roast. I found this recipe and it is AMAZING!! I always have to add beef broth and other spices to kick up my roast or make a gravy. I had no idea what I’ve been missing by making this at home. I did tweak it a little bit, added dried garlic and onions, omitted the parsley and a bit more black pepper. Thank you for this recipe, it’s a game changer!

I did not catch how much seasoning blend to add to an average size roast, say 3 lbs. ?? I really appreciate homemade blends such as this. Like you said, it gives me peace of mind to know what is in the food I prepare. Thanks so much for this!
